Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC mid-range smartphones officially announced: New 4nm

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC (System on a Chip) has been released by Qualcomm. It is a third-generation chip according to Qualcomm, even though it replaced the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC. The company’s third-generation semiconductors are its current generation, which makes sense.

A new midrange smartphone CPU that looks to be the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 discreetly surfaced on Qualcomm’s website over the weekend. It is effectively the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 successor, with Qualcomm omitting the “2” for unknown reasons.

What is better in this Snapdragon than its predecessor?

Comparing the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 to the Snapdragon 6 Gen1, Qualcomm says that the latter has 20% more AI performance, 30% higher GPU performance, and 10% better CPU performance.

With a similar CPU configuration but slower clock speeds, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 are quite similar devices. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 can only manage refresh rates of up to 120Hz, whereas the 7s Gen 2 can support displays with up to Full HD+ resolution—but at a higher rate of 144Hz.

When will smartphone manufacturers be able to purchase this new chip? Qualcomm has not yet disclosed this information. Additionally, it is yet unknown which smartphone models will use this new SoC.

Some of the Highlights

The 2.4GHz and 1.8GHz efficiency cores of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 are its maximum clock speeds.
Support for the Snapdragon Elite Gaming processor offers reduced touch latency, enhanced color reproduction, and effective rendering.
With two notable exceptions, the chip is remarkably similar to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. You can locate them below.

The new midrange mobile CPU, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC, was discreetly released. According to the chip manufacturer, the processor provides “boosted performance from Snapdragon 6 Gen 1.” According to the paper, that translates to a 2.4GHz peak frequency and a 4nm production node, whereas the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 can reach up to 2.2GHz. In addition, the new chip offers on-device AI capabilities and a 200MP camera. The following list contains all of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 specifications:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 specifications & features

Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Features

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is built on a 4nm technology and has an octa-core CPU. Four 2.4GHz Cortex-A78 cores and four 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 cores make up this.

The Adreno 710 GPU is combined with the chip, which can also be integrated with LPDDR5 or the older LPDDR4X RAM. The chip can only handle UFS 3.1 storage, though.

Along with improved AI performance, Qualcomm also included noise suppression during calls and activity tracking in the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 CPU. Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6E, and 5G are supported by this new midrange processor.

Regarding the display, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 can support 120Hz refresh rate screens with a resolution of up to Full HD+. In terms of cameras, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 offers up to a 48MP single sensor combination, a triple 16MP camera setup, or a dual 32MP+16MP setup that can produce up to 200MP images.

The lower-powered cores of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 run at 1.95GHz, while the efficiency cores of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 run at 1.8GHz.

Technically speaking, the two-year-old Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC is succeeded by this new chip. The chipset offers certain advantages in power efficiency because it is produced using the 4nm production technique.

What does the new Qualcomm chipset offer for users?

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 has not been introduced by Qualcomm during an event. All that was given on its official website was a synopsis of the chipset.

This chip is meant for Android devices in the mid-range and cheap categories. For smartphones in this price range, the chipset manufacturer has made an effort to provide better AI performance and photographic capabilities.

Fans of smartphones may notice that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 are fairly similar. The efficiency cores of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 are clocked at 1.95GHz, which is the only discernible difference. Furthermore, smartphones that contain the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip may feature a display that refreshes at a faster rate of 144Hz.
