Tested on a Galaxy S25 Ultra, the Snapdragon 8 Elite with overclocked performance cores was found to be inferior to benchmark leaks.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series will only ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite after the firm apparently failed to increase its 3nm GAA yields. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, the Korean behemoth’s top-tier model for 2025, is anticipated to employ a processor with clock rates working at higher frequencies, as has been the case in the past. The most recent benchmark leak revealed evidence of this overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite, but regrettably, the scores do not account for the higher clock rates.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra, while having an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite, does not surpass 10,000 points on Geekbench 6’s multi-core performance.

Samsung has been using Snapdragon chipsets with superior performance for a few generations now; they are known as “Snapdragon for Galaxy.” With the tests published on December 30, @TECHINFOSOCIALS was gracious enough to provide some benchmarking results of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, even if we are unsure if a “Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy” would ever be released for the Galaxy S25 series.

According to the specs, Samsung is not going to release a 16GB RAM version of its most expensive flagship as normal, as the device has been tested with 12GB RAM. Thankfully, there is good news: Samsung is reportedly planning to make 12GB RAM the norm for Galaxy S25 models, with a 16GB RAM edition reserved for the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite’s performance cores have a default clock speed of 4.32GHz, yet in Geekbench 6, we observe that the same performance cores are running at 4.47GHz, while the efficiency cores are clocked at 3.53GHz. A reference design with the same chipset achieved a higher single-core and multi-core result, thus it is disheartening to find that the Galaxy S25 Ultra falls short of the 10,000 point threshold in the multi-core result despite this improvement.

But benchmarks aren’t everything, and in order to achieve the best single-core and multi-core scores in Geekbench 6, smartphone manufacturers frequently sacrifice battery life and overall experience. Samsung would probably want to maximize the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s endurance because it has been rumoured that it will continue to use a 5,000mAh battery, much like previous generations of the device. However, we anticipate better results in a second test using an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite, so stay tuned.
