Poco X5 5G launched on February 6 with Snapdragon 695 chipset

Poco renews its range of smartphones. The company hosted a launch event on February 6th where it showcased the new X5 series. Two new smartphones lineup were presented at the event: the vanilla Poco X5 5G and the Pro model. In this article, we discuss the Vanilla Poco X5 in more detail, including its specs, features, projected pricing, and availability in India.

Poco X5 5G: Overall Features

The X-Series bridges the gap between the entry-level C-Series and flagship F-Series in Poco’s hierarchy. Poco didn’t release a vanilla model last year and only used the X4 Pro last year. This year, however, will introduce the vanilla X5, which will replace the Poco X3 from two years ago.

Performance

The interior is one of the biggest changes between the X3 and X5. While the X3 was equipped with the Snapdragon 732G, the new X5 will now be equipped with the Snapdragon 695 chip. This puts the upcoming X5 5G in the same league in terms of performance as last year’s X4 Pro 5G. Speaking of the Snapdragon 695, it’s a 6nm chip with an integrated 5G modem. It also features two powerful 2-clock Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2GHz with six efficient 1.7GHz Cortex-A55 cores. Additionally, the Adreno 619 GPU in the Snapdragon 695 is the higher clocked version of the Adreno 618 in the 732G.

Camera

With the exception of the chipset, the Poco X5 5G aims to replicate the specs of the recently launched Redmi Note 12 5G. That goes for the cameras, as rumors have suggested the X5 will have a triple 48MP setup, much like its Redmi Note counterpart. The main camera uses a 48-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. It is accompanied by an 8 MP ultra wide-angle camera and a 2 MP secondary sensor. However, the front of the phone houses a 13-megapixel selfie camera in the notch.

Design and Display

Leaked renders of the Poco X5 5G show a circular notch in the top center of the screen. The phone is said to have the same 6.67-inch AMOLED display as the X4 Pro 5G. It’s an FHD panel with a refresh rate and touch sample rate of 120Hz and 240Hz, respectively.

Speaking of design, we’re going to see a flat design with rounded corners. The renders also show a black body covering the camera module that was now the basis of Poco’s mid-range phone.

Other Specs

Previous certification sites have shown that the global version of the Poco X5 packs a 4,900mAh cell, which is most likely advertised as 5,000mAh. Likewise, we expect the phone to support 33W fast charging and come with MIUI 14, which has yet to be launched. Since Xiaomi has released several MIUI 13 phones based on Android 12 over the past year, we cannot be sure that the Poco X5 will support the latest Android 13 out of the box.
